ApplyingThis is a featured page

Applying for a job is relatively easy. You just send a resume to a company you want to work for, right?

If only it were that easy!

Sometimes it's not clear from a job ad how you're supposed to apply and a lot of recruiters are ruthless when it comes to adhering to their application process.

Tips on Applying

  1. If a phone number is listed assume it's okay to call and ask questions.
  2. If a fax number is listed, fax your resume and cover letter.
  3. If only an address is listed either deliver your resume and cover letter in person or mail it "Attention: Human Resources/Recruiting."
  4. If there is only an email address assume you're supposed to email your resume and cover letter to that address. Be sure to put the job title AND any ad information (posting number, job number, etc.) in the subject line!
  5. If you're online, fill out whatever forms you're linked to, redirected to, or are sent to you.
  6. If you only see a web address go to that web address and follow the instructions there.

There are definitely other ways of getting your foot in the door - networking, informational interviews, etc. Don't limit yourself to formal job ads!
